The results of the October 3rd election in Quebec have clearly had an impact on Prime Minister François Legault's cabinet, as well as on the opposition critics for culture.

With former Minister of Culture and Communications Nathalie Roy as the new President of the National Assembly, Quebec's cultural community will now have a new minister - Papineau MNA Mathieu Lacombe. Mr. Lacombe was Minister of Family Affairs in Premier Legault's former cabinet. He is 34 years old and was previously a journalist.

For the Liberal Party, Michelle Setlakwe, MP for Mont-Royal-Outremont, became the Liberal Party's culture and communications critic on October 27. Ms. Setlakwe was a municipal councillor and also defeated candidate for mayor of Town of Mount Royal, who is also a lawyer with the large legal firm Norton Rose.

Also, on the same day, the Québec Solidaire Party announced that the MNA for Mercier, Ruba Ghazal (herself an actor), had succeeded the MNA for Tashereau, Catherine Dorion, as spokesperson for French language, culture and communications. Ms. Gazal was the French language critic for the second opposition group from January 2021 to the end of August 2022.

In the Parti Québécois, the MNA for Matane-Matapédia, Pascal Bérubé, was the third opposition group's culture and communications critic from October 2020 to August 2022. There is a good chance that he will retain his position, given that the PQ deputation is composed of three people, including its leader.

As for the Chantier Molière, the MP for Chambly and Minister of French Language, Jean-François Roberge, is the person we will continue working with on the follow-up of this important project for the CQT.  (The Chantier Molière has three components: the training camp for new theatrical talent, the special program for the Théâtrophone platform: "La langue de Molière dans mes oreilles", and a major conference organized by the CEAD on francophone theatrical writing for the 21st century).

The CQT has already communicated with the two new ministers and will also be requesting meetings  with the new critics for culture in the opposition parties to discuss issues of concern to the professional theatre community, as well as pre-budget consultations which will take place before the end of the year.
