On July 30, federal Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland announced that programs supporting businesses and individuals have been extended until October 23, 2021.
This announcement was made in recognition of the fact that economic recovery has been uneven across the regions and sectors and that workers and businesses continue to need support.
- The Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB) is now available for a total of 54 weeks, an increase of 4 weeks from what was originally planned at the time of the April budget announcement.
- This support is equal to $300 per week.
- Individuals who have exhausted their EI benefits will be eligible for these additional weeks.
- The eligibility period for the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) and the
Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS) has been extended to October 23,
2021.
- The amount of support that employers and organizations can receive during the
period of August 29 to September 25, 2021 has been increased.
- Greater flexibility will be provided to businesses when calculating their revenue decline used to determine eligibility for the Wage and Rent Subsidy programs and the new Canadian Economic Recovery Hiring Program.
